You Deserve Healthy Love

Emotional Abuse Can be Hard to Recognize

Relationships exist on a spectrum from healthy to abusive, with differing levels of unhealthy relationships in between. Sometimes, it's hard to tell when a partner’s behavior has become abusive.

Here are some warning signs that your partner's behavior has crossed the line into abuse:

  • If you’re crying all the time in your relationship, that’s not healthy love.
  • If you’re constantly over-explaining your needs & defending your interests, that’s not healthy love.
  • If you’re constantly being put down or being called “crazy” or “stupid”, that’s not healthy love.
  • If you’re being told the phrase “If I can’t have you, no one can,” that’s not healthy love.
  • If you feel like you can’t make your own decisions, like what to wear or eat, that’s not healthy love.

  • If your partner uses technology to control or monitor you from afar, that’s not healthy love.

There are many emotional abuse red flags to watch for in our relationships. If you or someone you love is experiencing emotional abuse or abuse of any type, Peace at Home Family Shelter is here for you.
